Sydney Small-Blog 3- Personal Reflection- SUNY ESF- 11/08/2022
My first semester at college I was at a school called SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. This school is located on the campus of Syracuse University in upstate New York. There were a few things about this college that I thought about as we have been going through this course. As the name of the school states, this school is very focused on the environment. What I find very interesting is that the one dorm building that this school had was actually built on a Native American burial ground and right behind the dorm as well as a few of the academic buildings is a cemetery called Oakwood Cemetery. I found this very interesting as many of the people who were placed to rest here were from the 17th and 18th century. The connection of the school's devotion to the environment and the sacred places it was built on/next to just had me thinking that this connection is very tied to the idea of this course and that in the moments I was doing my homework in my hammock in a tree at Oakwood cemetery watching the sun set, I was practicing what this course is defined as being, an interconnectedness of religion and ecology.
